
3m reef along Andros were dominated by elkhorn coral, Acropora palmata.

Although large die-offs of Acropora have been reported in the Caribbean, Andros
has many extensive Acroporid reefs in very good condition. Fish populations are
also very abundant, especially herbivorous fish.

Only a few reefs surveyed along Andros in 1998 had heavy bleaching, unlike the
extensive bleaching in other parts of the Caribbean and Bahamas in 1998 (photo
by Ken Marks © 1998).
