Coral condition is assessed by estimating the percent of partial mortality (including both recent and old), in planar view. The following pages contain diagrams and photographs of corals with different degrees of partial mortality ranging from low to high. The percent mortality was determined through digital analysis.

Estimate the percent mortality (your estimates should combine both recent and old mortality due to the poor resolution of the photos).
Compare your estimates with the digitally determined estimates.
