The leeward fringing coral reef at María la Gorda, a small resort in the Península de Guanahacabibes Biosphere Reserve in western Cuba, is considered one of the nation’s most beautiful and best conserved. The 1,216 km² Biosphere Reserve is near the southeastern tip of Bahía (Ensenada) de Corrientes in the Península de Guanahacabibes.
Benthos and Fish surveys were conducted in Cuba using AGRRA protocol 2.2 and are included in the Atoll Research Bulletin, No. 496, Status of Coral Reefs in the Western Atlantic, published 2003.
